Health Budget being chipped away by Councils
Councils are taking money out from health budgets to balance other underfunded services
Funds that are normally sent to public health services are being spent on parks and leisure industries. A report highlighted by the BMJ actioned a freedom of information request which indicated that over a third of councils have taken money from the public health budgets.
But a spokesman for the Local Government Association, which represents councils, defended funds being used in different ways.
He said: "Councils are investing just as much as previous arrangements in public health services, and indeed are supporting wider determinants of health too.
