8 week course of mindfulness meditation will change brain functioning

A new study published in science daily has found that meditation such as mindfulness yoga, affects the brain functioning specifically the part of the brain ( Amygdala) known to control emotion. An 8 week course was monitored by says Gaëlle Desbordes, PhD, a research fellow at the Athinoula A. Martinos Cente who took reports on fmri scans after people had completed their meditation.  Dr Desbordes stated

"This is the first time that meditation training has been shown to affect emotional processing in the brain outside of a meditative state."

Mindfulness (meditation) yoga

Mindfulness yoga is a therapy which induces relaxation and can help anyone suffering from stress related illness anxiety etc, allowing the body and mind to calm helping the person to feel balanced.

The ethos of yoga for the mind

Healing from the depression and anxiety is a multifaceted process. Just as depression and anxiety affect many of our life, it can be influenced by a multitude of well factors. The yoga tradition does not view mental health as a merely a mental, biological, or spiritual problem, but rather a combination of all these. Although this may seem daunting, it means that there are many things we can do to positively affect our mental health. We can work with the mind, with the body, with the breath and with the heart; and each one will invariably influence the others.
