Diabetes costing America $192 billion by 2020

Obesity is a major health problem all over the world, and it is well known that obesity is linked to diabetes. According to the American Diabetes Association, the annual cost of caring for patients with diabetes will approach $192 billion in 2020.

A study published in Archives of Surgery, demonstrates that morbidly obese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, who underwent bariatric surgery, were linked to remission or improvement in diabetes-related outcomes, compared with those who received conventional therapy.

People with a Metabolic disorder will still put on weight even if they have a gastric band or not.

A person with a metabolic disorder will store weight in key areas of the body. Once the body learns to accumulate energy as adipose tissue (fat tissue), it is very difficult to stop this mechanism and return the body to its original state. In other words, the patient starts suffering from a chronic condition. This is like having a chronic condition such as hypertension, diabetes or a thyroid problem.
