Reflexology Treatments for Stress & Immune System
What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is an Holistic, non-invasive therapy that has a documented history dating back 5000 years. It was known about in ancient China and there are paintings on the walls of the tomb of Ankhamor (a physician to the Pharoah) in Saqquara depicting its use in around 2500 B.C.The term "Reflexology" is a relitively recent one, as the therapy was "re-discovered" in the western world in the USA in early twentieth century. It was brought to prominence by a physical therapist caled Eunice Ingham, who worked with patient who had had polio.
There are approximately 7200 nerve endings on the feet, and these relate to various organs and glands within the body. A mirror image of the body has been mapped on the feet and presure applied on specific reflex points on the feet can affect the corresponding part of the body.
The energy flow or Chi which flows through the body, if disrupted can cause illness or dis-ease and Reflexology aims to restore and maintain balance.
The body has its own powerful healing response, Reflexology aims to stimulate this into normal functioning and once acheived, help to maintain Homeostasis or balance.
Initially Reflexology speeds up the circulation, it also induces a feeling deep relaxation. Reflexology aims to stimulate the body's own organs and systems to work at their optimum levels and to maintain Homeostasis.

Can I receive Reflexology Treatment in Pregnancy and Labour?
Reflexology can also be used in pre-conception care, pregnancy care and priming labour. It is effective in helping reduce the nausea in pregnancy, backache and oedema. It is also one of the top three complementary therapies recommended for use during pregnancy and pain-relief during labour.
Used during labour figures show that the birth time can be reduced and the mother recovers more quickly after birth by using Reflexology as an aid.
A full pre-treatment consultation will be taken before any Reflexology is given for all clents. A copy of these records is available for you to take away and include with your birth notes and share with your midwife and doctor.
Reflexology does not claim to cure, I will never ask you to amend or stop taking any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner. If you are under a doctors care, you will always be advised to inform your doctor that you are receiving Reflexlogy
Following a treatment clients are advised to wear comfortable shoes, drink water or decaffeinated drinks and avoid alcohol. This is to promote the detoxification process and help the body to eliminate the toxins that have been released.
I would always recommend that you inform your doctor you are having Reflexology, and am happy for you to pass along my details to your G.P.
One final thought, many private health care plans now cover Complementary Therapies from suitably qualified practitioners.
