Providing prenatal yoga classes for ladies registered at Stepping Hill Hospital.
Trained as a Dru yoga teacher Kay has also trained as a prenatal yoga therapist and loves working with pregnant ladies.
What will happen in Kay’s prenatal yoga lessons?
Working with flowing movement, the breath, mindfulness, visualization, relaxation and meditation, Kay’s lesson begin with an activation to warm and limber the physical body and progress through to a guided relaxation allowing each participant to access their own sense of calm and comfortable stillness. The emphasis is on informality and fun to nourish and support mental as well as physical health.
Kay says
“We have a lovely class, light hearted with the emphasis on relaxation, gently easing tension from the body and giving time and space for mother and baby to bond.”
How can prenatal yoga help my unborn child?
We examine health and well being during pregnancy, addressing worries and tiredness during the earlier stages and practice techniques to help calm the mind, also taking time out to establish comfortable sitting and resting postures.
Then we focus in on the ‘birth day’ exploring breathing strategies and possible birthing postures. Finally we look forward to life with your new baby, sharing quick fixes for relaxation, release of tension for tired arms, necks and backs, also calming exercises for breathing and work on the pelvic floor to regain postural stability and avoid future back problems.
A specialist in yoga for mental health and stress trained as a Yoga for the Mind therapist with Heather Mason, Kay also works with families and children affected by disability having also studied with Joe Manuel at The Special Yoga Centre in London, and The Mindful Child with Susan Kaiser Greenland. Having a post graduate certificate in Aspergers Syndrome from Sheffield Hallam University and two children both affected by ASD she is passionate to facilitate inclusion for all in each yoga lesson she teaches.
