Learning Stress-Reducing Techniques Via Second Life Online Environment

Treatment for depression & stress can me found through meditation, though shown through a study the application can be taught through an online media. A small study was conducted in a Massachusetts General hospital which found that workers who had stress were able to take on the relaxation techniques through being taught stress reducing applications.  To see whether the test seemed applicable to anyone they trialled the study with 24 individuals 10 of which who did not have any symptoms of stress.

The 10 who were not stressed would lead the other participants ( the stressed individuals) through a virtual reality showing them techniques and helping them download certain relaxation techniques.

Daniel Hoch, MD, PhD, of the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine at MGH oversaw the trail & the full study was completed by 24 individuals in three groups, all receiving the same training program. Although the small size of the study made it difficult to arrive at statistically significant results. There also seems to be a number of variables that were overlooked and that these results could have been perceived differently.

Online therapy does not use any integrative counselling techniques

This form of online counselling for people with stress seems to me to be fraught with problems. Any business using an online support system for helping their workers deal with their problems is unrealistic & lacks a serious understanding of emotional problems, and the use of integrative therapy to deal with a workers stress related illness.

Hypno-psychotherapy deals with negative thoughts & outdated belief systems. A computer program does not!

Hypno-psychotherapy recognises that there are many ways of looking at how the mind works. Some people, for instance, take the view that our thoughts and actions are mainly affected by the way we look at the world and how it treats us. Others believe that we are mostly driven by our “subconscious” mind, which is taken to be the store of all our past experiences and emotions. Whatever theory of the mind is applied, hypnosis can be intergrated with appropriate psychotherapeutic approaches to help bring about positive changes.

Helping to bring Change

Hypnosis customarily creates a deeply relaxed state in which mental stress and bodily tension are reduced. In this relaxed state, the mind is usually more open to the process of change. As such, client and therapist can safley work together, using an agreed approach, to enhance metal, physical and emotional well – being.
